Today I ran the 2.5 mile loop that I usually walk 2x/day with my roommate on my lunch break, and I have to say that walking so frequently has totally improved my relationship with running -- usually when I run I compare my speed to a driving speed, which is the only other speed I go on a regular basis, but I'm starting to appreciate how much faster running is compared to the 55 minutes it takes to walk that loop, and it totally changed my attitude! Didn't hate myself for even a second. The rest of you who are out here on long runs all the time, pls don't judge my lowly 2.5 :)
Also there is a great Bill Bryson quote:
"Distance changes utterly when you take the world on foot. A mile becomes a long way, two miles literally considerable, 10 miles whopping, 50 miles at the very limits of conception. The world, you realize, is enormous in a way that only you and a small community of fellow hikers know."
